Puntland’s newly elected President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali (Gas) has today officially taken over the office from Ex-President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole in a well organised ceremony that was held in the state’s Presidential palace in Garowe.

The Ceremony was attended by former ministers, Traditional elders, Civil society and Representatives from the International Community.

Former President Abdirahman Farole who delivered a speech in the ceremony outlining what his government achieved during their 5-year term and stressed that he’s delighted to hand over the power to the newly President.

‘’ We managed to eradicate Piracy in Puntland and can assure you that there is no even ‘’one’’ ship currently hijacked by the pirates in our sea’’, he said.

Farole announced that he is handling over to the new President documents containing pending projects to be accomplished. Those development projects include Construction of Airports and Highways.

“I am really happy today to handover the power to the newly Elected President while admitting the results of the elections, I will work close with him”, he said Mr. Farole urging also the nation to work with the New President and his Vice-President.

The newly Elected President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali who made a brief speech and thanked the former President for his massive work during his tenure together with his cabinet. He added that they will both work close and seek advice from him on the job.

Later on 21st of this month, the Inauguration of the new President is planned to occur in the capital and its expected to be attended by delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia and senior officials from the International Community.

The current president, Abdiweli M. Ali, Ph.D, was the former prime minister of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.

He is also a former presidential candidate and past member of the Somali Federal Parliament.

In addition, he is currently Associate Professor of Economics at Niagara University in Lewiston, New York.

He won the presidential elections during a tight competition with former President Farole, the two were differentiated by one vote.

The International Community massively welcomed the elections saying that Puntland was “leading the way on the development of a federal Somalia” and the region.
